Murder at Midnight on the Orient Star
Eric's Edge Games current work in progress is a point-and-click murder mystery game.
Step into the gaslit luxury of the late nineteenth century with Death at Midnight on the Orient Star, a single-player narrative abdeduction game set aboard the legendary luxury train in the final decade of the nineteenth century. You inhabit Inspector Jean-Luc Leclerc of the Paris Surete, a man of fallen aristocracy and relentless intellect, as he travels eighty hours from Paris to Constantinople across a closed world of mahogany, gaslight, and carefully maintained secrets. When a fellow passenger is found dead in a locked cabin on the second night, Leclerc must identify the killer before the train reaches Sirkeci Terminal and the case passes into administrative jurisdictions less interested in truth than tidy outcomes.
Observation serves as your primary verb on the train. Rather than pixel-hunting or racing timers, you must watch, listen, and filter out conversational noise, emotional deflections, and social posturing to catch vital signals. Through Leclerc’s internal analytical protocols, including the meditative India Shutter and the historical Mundaneum System, you organize accumulated evidence into a dynamic network of interconnected index cards, engaging in active abductive reasoning where your own deductions shape the outcome. You do not investigate in isolation.
You actively deploy an investigative trio, coordinating with Arslan, the carriage attendant whose effective invisibility provides faithful timestamped records of corridor events, and Elodie, the chambermaid who accesses the intimate interior spaces and affective registers closed to authority. Managing trust with your partners determines the depth and texture of your ultimate conclusions.
Immerse yourself in a meticulously realized 1899 world where atmosphere is a consequence and every choice carries weight. Whether your accusation leads to a complete confession or a chilling stalemate, the final resolution reflects the true rigor of your investigative intellect. Discover how much of the truth you can see, and whether you can make it stick before the journey's end.
