Posterize.us

In my previous post, I made some remark about sense of community ... in Tumblr, and perhaps the lack thereof in Posterous. A few minutes after I'd done that, I came across THIS! :)

Whoever started it, it's a great initiative.

Changing colors ...

Decided to make this page white instead ... it was so dark.

I wanted to keep that top bar, the black one -- that's the header-background -- but also put in an image of the title with my favorite font [for the moment]. I put that in as H1 background and that worked fine, except that I couldn't hide the text that was there in the first place.

Went into the 'Customize' mode instead of 'Advanced' and removed the text, but then the image wouldn't show. The only solution to that, that I could come up with, was to type a whole bunch of   in the box where the title was. That worked.

Hey Jeff -- good idea. It'll be up to the theme designer to allow color changes. Unfortunately it is way too easy to myspace-ify blogs if you allow total and complete control of all colors. We believe that the theme designer should have final control over what is customizable, and its not possible to provide total color control to end users.

Background images are coming soon -- it'll be a special feature that theme designers can take advantage of.

Header images will usually be 500px across, and up to 500px high. Again, this is up to the theme designer.

 Hope that helps!

hi Garry - thanks for the timely reply! I hear what you are saying about the colors - I expect if I really want to change things I could dive into the CSS. I know enough to be dangerous. Still, a set of totally color-customizable themes would be welcome by this end user!

Again, for each theme a recommended size for a header image and an idea of placement will be a big help. I could do it by trial and error ("oh, that's where it goes") but why? Recommendations would also help avoid excessive Myspaceiness ;)

Good to hear about background images - cheers! - j

What I'm expecting to see soon, is a place for sharing ready-made Posterous themes...

Still customizing Posterous

It's morning, but if I don't get off this couch it will be afternoon before I know it!

Most of last night was spent trying to figure out the customizing of Posterous. It's not like anything I've seen before. Wanted to put in a background image in the header and make it TILE. No dice. I can make an image show up, but only if I upload it ... not by writing it in  the code.

It's not really important -- it just bugs me that I can't figure it out. Normally I'm not this lost. I'm quite happy with it, the way it is now and I'm able to change the colors if I want to, and font.

Who could possibly need another blogging platform, one wonders.... hope it will always stay this way.

I can't recall where I stored my favicon... ahhhah..need to clean out the temporary files of my MIND!
