Almost finished

We drove by Lily Lake today to see if there still were any ducks left. All the wigeons have left. There were quite a few left, and I don't know if these are the ones that will spend the winter. It's my first year here.

It's funny to see how the male mallards' heads are turning green now...this one [in the picture], is almost finished. I've followed these guys since the Spring, when they were just little downy balls...

Greater Yellowlegs

These birds are Greater Yellowlegs. I didn't know that when I took the picture on Hanover Street in Saint John, N.B. I asked someone who knows his stuff ... Merv Cormier. What a name for such a beautiful bird! Couldn't they -- whoever 'they' were -- have come up with something more creative, one would think?!
